The Inventium© card game is derived from a simplified version of TRIZ (theory of inventive problem solving) and the 40 principles of invention that help identify new pathways and produce original ideas. The cards can accelerate inventive processes by creating connections and enabling the leap forward that is made in all significant inventions.

TRIZ was invented by Genrich Altshuller. With a team of researchers, he analyzed millions of patents and then modeled common principles. According to the model, each invention is the result of the resolution of one or several contradictions. Once the contradictions are identified, they are inserted into a matrix of contradictions that helps identify the correlating principles that have been used to overcome the problem in the past.
